TODAY'S OBECTIVES

Student can...

  • Use microscope to find image of specimen under low, medium and high power
  • Determine field of view at each magnification
  • Complete a microscope drawing neatly and according to guidelines

 

CLASS LESSON

  1. [DID NOT DO TODAY--> Review worksheet 7.1 and worksheet 7.2 with students in class.  Record students' completion rate of 7.2]
  2. Tomorrow students will have formative quiz on 18 cell structures which should be labeled and colored include:  cell membrane (also called plasma membrane), nucleus, nuclear envelope (also called nuclear membrane), nuclear pore, nucleolus, chromatin, nucleoplasm, cytoplasm, mitochondrion, Golgi complex, centriole, microtubule, vacuole, lysozome, microfilament, ribosome, smooth endoplasmic reticulum, rough endoplasmic reticulum.
  3. Introduction to microscope parts using unlabelled microscope diagram.
  4. Introduce students to micrsocope drawings.  Distribute exemplar microscope drawing.
  5. Each student should make one page with three drawings showing:
    1. what the paper millimeter ruler looks like under low power magnification, medium magnification and high magnification.
    2. "microscope magnification" for each drawing
    3. measured "field of view" for each drawing

 

ASSIGNMENT

  1. Prepare for next class quiz on cell structure (naming cell parts)
